Lahu Village

The sky glowed with the orange light, sunset was upon and darkness was coming. Men and women were shouldering rice sacks and banana trees using a head binder. It looked heavy but it was a duties which became a way of life. At nighttime in the Lahu village, warm tea was passed to make me warm by my sincere host. It’s smell enriched by hot water made it irresistible to taste. Warm, bitter but fresh. Lahu people were known as great hunters. Searching for food was the important factor in their life. Lahu liked to live near water in vast expanses of virgin land. It was the wisdom of their ancestors that flowed throughout their culture.  Today, in the quickly changing modern world Lahu culture has adapted fairly easily.
The community which was located near the city had to accept the modernity unavoidably. But it did not mean that they would forget their heritage, Lahu people still retain their culture in a traditional way. When we stepped into the Lahu village, we could see that Lahu women did many activities such as shoulder the rice sack or weave the clothes without tiredness. When a festival occurred, Lahu would join cheerfully together. The Ja Kue dance involved people dancing in a circle around a fire, the dance was led by the religious leader. There were hill tribe musical instruments such as the gong, cymbal, drum or reed organ to make the dance perfect. The dance began by easy step, left and right step and also the clapping of hands. It was a wonderful experience I will never forget. Additionally the Lahu are famed for their skills with fabric and weaving. Their bags, clothes and wrist bands are often fantastic and elaborate.
