Life style : Lahu-Fishing

In the past, Lahus used their own wisdom to catch the fish along either big or small canal.

Equipments

Things that should be prepared before fishing are:
The hoe : for digging the soil and pill the soil on in order to block the water out. By doing this, it will be easy to catch the fish.
    • The knife : for cutting the leaves which can exclude the water out.
    • The plate : for bailing the water when there is puddle.
    • The bucket : for putting the fish in.

Nga Tor We
Lahu people line the stones up and pile the soil over the stones in order to block the water out. The water will flow to another watercourse. After that, bail the water out by the plate or bowl until the water run dry. Next, it is time for catching the fish (take a look on amount of the channel. There must has two channels: the dry channel that has fish inside and the channel for flowing the water out)
Nga Sae Kow Tor We
This way of fishing have to use the knife to cut the banana tree, tear the leaf sheaf out and lay down along the brook. The sheaf is overlied obliquely and on both tip there are “Nha Sae Kow” open for the fish to swim in. This method can do anywhere and anytime.
Nga Ka We
This way of fishing needs the personal ability of each person. Lahu people delve the empty hand under the stone which is expected to have the fish. There must be the hollow, nook or root. Not everyone who can do this method, it depends on their skills. In addition, we should pay attention on poisonous animals.

Nga Se We

It is night fishing. The important equipments are knifes and bamboos. The bamboo is used to set on fire in order to see  the fish which still sleep in the water clearly. When we see the fish, we slash the knife in the water where the fish are. We have to get closer to the fish quietly. The suitable time is after midnight in the moonless night because it is the sleeping time for the fish.
